Live Online Applied AML / CFT & Financial Crime Analytics Training Course

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 2, 2026 · from USD 800

Criminals move illicit funds through thousands of ordinary-looking transactions, and compliance teams drowning in false alerts often miss the few that matter. Over five days, analysts learn to work with transaction data directly rather than relying on a vendor's black box. Sessions cover customer risk scoring, monitoring scenarios and threshold tuning, link analysis, typologies for trade-based laundering, mobile money abuse and terrorist financing, and the logic behind FATF recommendations and the risk-based approach.

About this course

Financial crime is becoming faster, more digital and more cross-border, while supervisors expect institutions to show that their controls actually work. Banks, mobile money operators, insurers, forex bureaus and non-bank lenders now hold the data needed to find suspicious behaviour, yet many still run default rules that produce thousands of false positives and little intelligence. Closing that gap takes analytical skill as well as legal knowledge.

Applied AML / CFT & Financial Crime Analytics Training Course starts with the risk-based approach, then moves through customer risk assessment, data preparation, rule design and calibration, behavioural segmentation, and network and link analysis. Participants study laundering and terrorist financing typologies relevant to East African and global markets and learn how to test whether a monitoring scenario catches them. The final sessions cover alert investigation, case documentation, suspicious transaction reporting and the metrics that show management and regulators whether the programme is effective.

Teaching is practical. Participants work on anonymised datasets, build simple analytical models, review real-style alert queues and write reports in groups. They finish with a short improvement plan for their own monitoring framework, ready to present to a compliance committee.

Training Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the risk-based approach and how FATF standards shape monitoring expectations.
  • Build customer and product risk scores from available data fields.
  • Design and calibrate transaction monitoring scenarios to reduce false positives.
  • Apply link and network analysis to uncover related accounts and hidden beneficial owners.
  • Identify laundering and terrorist financing typologies in transaction patterns.
  • Investigate alerts and document findings in a clear, defensible case file.
  • Draft suspicious transaction reports with accurate facts and reasoned grounds.
  • Measure monitoring effectiveness using alert quality and coverage metrics.
