This course teaches humanitarian professionals to integrate climate adaptation into program design, helping communities reduce climate vulnerability and build adaptive capacity for a changing climate.
Climate change is reshaping disaster patterns, agricultural viability, water availability, and health risks across the region, yet many humanitarian and development programs ignore climate change or address it as an afterthought. This five-day course teaches climate adaptation integration: assessing climate change vulnerabilities and risks at community level, understanding climate-smart agriculture and water management practices, integrating adaptation into development programming, and building community-based adaptive capacity. Participants examine climate adaptation case studies from humanitarian and development initiatives across the region.
Practical sessions include conducting a climate vulnerability assessment, identifying adaptation opportunities within existing programs, and developing a climate-smart livelihood strategy. Participants leave with tools and frameworks for strengthening climate adaptation across humanitarian and development programming.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Day 1: Assessing Community Climate Vulnerability
Day 2: Climate-Smart Agriculture and Water Management
Day 3: Integrating Adaptation into Livelihoods and Food Security
Day 4: Natural Resource Management for Resilience
Day 5: Financing and Strategy Development
This course is for humanitarian programme staff who must build climate adaptation directly into livelihood and food security project design, not treat it as a separate agenda.
Participants who complete the five days receive a Certificate of Completion from Vision Reach Global Consultancy, confirming their grounding in integrating climate change adaptation into humanitarian project design.
