Live Online Data and Analytics for Aquaculture, Poultry & Livestock Production Training Course

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 9, 2026 · from USD 800

Feed is often more than half the cost of raising fish, chickens and cattle, and small losses in survival or growth quietly erase profit. Farms that record the right numbers and read them well catch problems early and price their output with confidence. This five-day programme teaches producers and advisers to build that discipline. You set up production records for ponds, cages, poultry houses, dairy and beef herds, then calculate feed conversion ratio, mortality, average daily gain, egg production rate, milk yield and cost per kilogram produced.

About this course

Animal production has become a numbers business. Rising feed prices, disease pressure, tighter buyer specifications and demands for traceability mean that gut feeling no longer protects margins. Yet many fish farms, poultry units and livestock enterprises still keep paper records that are never analysed, or digital records that nobody trusts.

This programme shows how to move from scattered records to usable analytics. Participants start by defining the key performance indicators that matter in each production system, including survival, feed conversion, growth rates, laying percentage, milk yield, stocking density and cost of production. They learn to design simple recording systems, clean and validate the data, and summarise it with pivot tables, charts and interactive dashboards. Later sessions introduce benchmarking between batches, houses, ponds and herds, basic statistical comparison, early warning signals for disease and water quality problems, and forecasting of harvests, feed requirements and cash flow.

Learning is hands-on. Participants work with realistic datasets from tilapia and catfish ponds, broiler and layer houses, and dairy and beef herds, then apply the same methods to their own records. The course ends with a tailored dashboard and an action plan for embedding data review in weekly and monthly farm management.

Training Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define production and financial indicators for aquaculture, poultry and livestock enterprises.
  • Design and maintain accurate batch, herd and pond records on paper and mobile tools.
  • Clean, validate and organise farm data in Excel for analysis.
  • Calculate feed conversion, mortality, growth, yield and cost per unit of output.
  • Benchmark performance across batches, units and seasons to find the causes of variation.
  • Build dashboards that give managers a weekly view of production and costs.
  • Forecast harvests, feed demand and cash flow using trend and scenario methods.

What you'll learn

Define production and financial indicators for aquaculture, poultry and livestock enterprises.
Design and maintain accurate batch, herd and pond records on paper and mobile tools.
Clean, validate and organise farm data in Excel for analysis.
Calculate feed conversion, mortality, growth, yield and cost per unit of output.
Benchmark performance across batches, units and seasons to find the causes of variation.
Build dashboards that give managers a weekly view of production and costs.
Forecast harvests, feed demand and cash flow using trend and scenario methods.

Key Takeaways

Participants leave the course with:

  • A set of recording templates for ponds, poultry houses and herds.
  • A working Excel workbook that calculates core production and cost indicators automatically.
  • A dashboard prototype built on their own or sample farm data.
  • A benchmarking sheet to compare batches and flag underperformers.
  • A simple forecasting model for harvest timing, feed needs and cash flow.
  • A monthly performance review routine for their farm or organisation.

Training Methodology

The programme is a working laboratory for farm data rather than a lecture series. Participants will experience:

  • Computer labs using Excel and Power BI with anonymised aquaculture, poultry and dairy datasets
  • Worked case files that trace a production problem from the records to its cause
  • Short briefings from trainers experienced in animal production management
  • Clinics where participants restructure their own records
  • A closing exercise presenting a dashboard and review routine to the group
