Buildings use a large share of the electricity that organisations pay for, and most of that data sits unused in utility bills, sub-meters and building management systems. Owners who cannot read it cannot prove savings, find waste or set credible carbon targets. This five-day programme teaches facilities and energy teams to turn raw readings into decisions.
You start by collecting and cleaning interval data, then build energy baselines using degree-day regression and normalisation for weather and occupancy. Benchmarking against energy use intensity, load profile analysis, anomaly detection and fault finding show where equipment runs when it should not. Measurement and verification following IPMVP principles proves what retrofits actually deliver. You then convert kilowatt-hours into emissions with grid factors, test efficiency, solar and electrification scenarios and prepare a decarbonisation roadmap with costs and payback. Work is done in Excel and Python with pandas, using realistic datasets from offices, hospitals, hotels and campuses. Energy managers, facilities engineers, sustainability officers, building owners, energy auditors and consultants will leave able to build a dashboard and a roadmap. Delivery is in classrooms, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.
Energy costs, carbon commitments and tenant expectations are pushing building owners across Africa and beyond to understand exactly where their energy goes. Smart meters and building management systems now produce enormous volumes of readings, yet many teams still rely on monthly bills and guesswork. Without structured analysis, efficiency projects are hard to justify and harder to verify.
The Data and Analytics for Building Energy Performance and Decarbonisation Training Course gives practitioners a complete analytical workflow. Participants learn to assemble data from bills, meters and control systems, handle gaps and outliers, and align consumption with weather and occupancy. They then build baseline models, benchmark buildings, detect abnormal behaviour and estimate savings from measures. The final stage links energy to emissions, covering Scope 2 accounting, scenario modelling and the prioritisation of retrofit options by cost per tonne avoided.
Teaching is laboratory based. Participants work through guided notebooks and spreadsheets on realistic building datasets, then apply the same steps to data from their own portfolio where it is available. The course ends with each participant presenting a short decarbonisation plan supported by their own analysis.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
