Live Online Data and Analytics for Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course
Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 2, 2026 · from USD 800
Climate commitments and funding applications now depend on numbers: how exposed a district is to drought, how much an adaptation project saves and how many tonnes of carbon a company emits. Weak data leads to rejected proposals and doubtful claims. Five days teach you to collect, clean and analyse the evidence behind climate decisions. You work with rainfall and temperature records, satellite-derived indicators and project data, building trend analyses, exposure and vulnerability scores and simple dashboards. The carbon accounting sessions follow the GHG Protocol, covering boundaries, emission factors, activity data and Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculations.
Data analysts, sustainability and climate officers, environmental consultants, monitoring and evaluation specialists, county and national planners and development programme staff will benefit. Classroom, online and in-house delivery are offered. Labs use Python with pandas and charts, alongside Excel, so participants who are new to coding can still follow. Afterwards you can prepare a climate risk profile, quantify an emissions inventory and present both clearly to funders and managers. A CPD-accredited certificate is awarded on completion.

About this course
Climate action is increasingly a data discipline. Governments prepare adaptation plans, banks assess physical risk, companies report emissions to investors and customers, and climate funds ask applicants for evidence at every step. Yet climate and emissions data are often scattered, inconsistent in format or poorly documented, which makes sound analysis difficult.
The Data and Analytics for Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course gives practitioners the working methods to handle that data. Participants start with sources and quality: weather stations, reanalysis products, remote sensing indices, household surveys and utility records. They then learn to prepare data, analyse trends and extremes, and combine hazard, exposure and vulnerability layers into risk measures that can guide adaptation priorities and tracking indicators.
The second half turns to carbon accounting. Participants set organisational and operational boundaries, select emission factors, calculate energy, transport, waste and agricultural emissions, and review how offsets and reduction targets are treated. They also examine verification expectations and how to present uncertainty honestly. Each topic is taught through guided lab work, so participants finish with scripts, workbooks and a short analytical report that can be reused in their own organisations.
Training Objectives
By the close of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and assess the quality of climate and emissions data sources.
- Clean, transform and visualise climate time series in Python and Excel.
- Analyse long-term trends, variability and extreme events.
- Construct hazard, exposure and vulnerability indices for risk screening.
- Prioritise adaptation options using simple cost and benefit measures.
- Calculate organisational greenhouse gas inventories following the GHG Protocol.
- Document assumptions, uncertainty and data gaps for review.
- Present climate evidence to decision makers and funders.
