Design Thinking
Organisations waste time and money building products, services and policies that solve the wrong problem or ignore how people actually behave. Human-centred innovation gives teams a disciplined way to understand users before committing resources. You will work through the five stages of empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test, using empathy interviews, observation, journey maps and personas to uncover unmet needs. Problem framing with point-of-view statements and how-might-we questions, structured brainstorming, concept selection and low-fidelity prototyping follow, along with simple ways to gather feedback and judge whether an idea is working.
Most of the week is hands-on: small teams take a real organisational challenge through a complete design sprint and present tested prototypes to the group at the end. Sessions also cover building a culture where experimentation feels safe, facilitating creative workshops and embedding the approach into strategy and service design. Managers, team leaders, product and service designers, innovation officers and public-sector reformers will find it valuable. Afterwards you can plan and facilitate a design thinking workshop, turn user insight into testable ideas and support decisions with evidence gathered from the people they affect.
About this course
Organizations that excel in design thinking create customer loyalty, drive revenue growth, and build strong market position. This course gives sales, marketing, and customer service professionals a comprehensive toolkit — from strategy and analytics through execution, measurement, and continuous improvement.
Built on proven methodologies and real-world scenarios, participants develop actionable strategies they can implement on day one of return to their roles.
Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how design thinking is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for design thinking module 1, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
Training Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Develop robust design thinking frameworks that support successful implementation and measurable outcomes.
- Analyze performance using recognized evaluation methods drawn from design thinking module 1.
- Design practical systems that strengthen accountability, transparency and evidence generation.
- Evaluate outcomes and assess longer-term impact across a range of operating contexts.
- Apply relevant tools, frameworks and analytical methodologies confidently and appropriately.
- Integrate design thinking module 2 into existing organizational processes and reporting structures.
- Strengthen decision-making and operational effectiveness through evidence-based professional practice.
