Live Online Designing and Operating an Enterprise AI Enablement Function Training Course

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 2, 2026 · from USD 800

Many organisations now have scattered AI pilots, a handful of generative AI licences and no clear owner for any of it. Without a central function to set standards, share platforms and decide which ideas deserve funding, AI spending fragments, risks go unmanaged and successful prototypes never reach production. Over five days you design the operating model for an AI centre of excellence, choosing between centralised, hub-and-spoke and federated structures, defining roles such as AI product owner, ML engineer and AI risk lead, and agreeing decision rights with IT, data, legal and business units. Governance sessions apply ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework to use-case approval, model risk tiering and human oversight.

About this course

Generative AI has moved artificial intelligence out of the data science team and onto every desk, and with it has come a governance problem. Business units buy tools independently, sensitive data finds its way into public chatbots, and leadership struggles to say what AI has actually delivered. Organisations that get lasting value usually have one thing in common: a dedicated enablement function that owns standards, shared platforms, skills and the portfolio of use cases.

The Designing and Operating an Enterprise AI Enablement Function Training Course walks through how to build that capability and keep it running. It starts with mandate and operating model options, then covers the team's roles and funding, responsible AI policy and risk tiering aligned to the NIST AI RMF and ISO/IEC 42001, and the intake process that turns business ideas into scored, sequenced projects. Later sessions address the technology stack, from model access and retrieval-augmented generation to MLOps and monitoring, along with vendor management, AI literacy programmes and the metrics that show value to an executive committee.

Teaching is workshop-based. Participants work on a running case of a mid-sized organisation, drafting its AI charter, governance procedures and portfolio, and they test their designs against realistic scenarios such as a data leak through a chatbot or a stalled pilot. Each person finishes with a plan they can adapt to their own institution.

Training Objectives

Participants will finish the five days able to:

  • Define the mandate, scope and success measures of an AI enablement function.
  • Choose between centralised, hub-and-spoke and federated operating models for their organisation.
  • Design roles, skills profiles and a funding model for the core AI team.
  • Draft responsible AI policies and risk-tiered approval procedures aligned with ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI RMF.
  • Build a use-case intake and scoring process that ranks ideas on value, feasibility and risk.
  • Evaluate platform, model and vendor options, including build, buy and partner decisions.
  • Plan AI literacy, champion networks and change management to drive adoption.
  • Measure portfolio performance and report AI value to senior leadership.

What you'll learn

Measure portfolio performance and report AI value to senior leadership.

Key Takeaways

You return to work with:

  • A one-page charter setting out the function's mandate, scope and decision rights.
  • An operating model diagram and role profiles for the core team and business-unit spokes.
  • A risk-tiering matrix and approval workflow for new AI use cases.
  • A scoring template for prioritising the AI portfolio.
  • A set of adoption and value KPIs ready for an executive dashboard.
  • A sequenced 12-month roadmap for launching or relaunching the function.

Training Methodology

Sessions mix design work with critique, so that participants test ideas before taking them back to their organisations:

  • Short briefings on operating models, governance standards and platform options
  • A running case in which teams build an enablement function for a fictional organisation
  • Scenario drills on chatbot data leaks, biased model outputs and stalled pilots
  • Live demonstrations of enterprise generative AI tools and governance dashboards
  • Peer review of each participant's charter and roadmap
