This five-day course teaches disaster risk management fundamentals: assessing hazards and vulnerabilities at community level, designing preparedness and early warning systems, and integrating disaster risk reduction into development and humanitarian programming. Participants examine case studies where proactive risk reduction prevented major losses, alongside communities where lack of preparation amplified disaster impacts.
Practical sessions include conducting a community disaster risk assessment, designing a community preparedness plan, and integrating risk reduction into an existing program. Participants leave with tools and frameworks to address disaster risk within their own organizational and community contexts.
