A product recall, data breach, fatal accident, fraud allegation or viral social media post can define how stakeholders see an organisation for years, and the first hours of response often matter more than everything that follows. Leaders who hesitate, contradict each other or speak without facts make a bad situation worse. Over five days you build the capability to lead communication when the stakes are highest. You develop strategic communication plans using audience mapping, message houses and channel strategy, then move into issues management, crisis typologies, Situational Crisis Communication Theory, the structure of a crisis communication plan, crisis team roles and escalation.
Practical work covers holding statements, the first press briefing, broadcast interview technique, apologies, social listening, handling misinformation and disinformation, internal and investor communication, and coordinating with legal and operations teams. Measurement uses the Barcelona Principles to show outcomes rather than coverage counts. Chief executives, directors, communication and corporate affairs heads, PR managers, spokespeople, government communication officers and NGO country leads will benefit most. A full crisis simulation closes the week. Delivery is classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.
Organisations now operate in an environment where news breaks first on social platforms, where employees and customers can broadcast their experiences instantly, and where false or misleading claims spread faster than corrections. Executives are expected to communicate with clarity, empathy and speed, often before all the facts are known, and their conduct in those moments shapes trust among regulators, investors, staff and the public. At the same time, everyday strategic communication must keep reputation strong enough to withstand a crisis when it comes.
The Executive Crisis & Strategic Communication Training Course prepares senior leaders and their communication advisers for both responsibilities. It opens with strategic communication at board and executive level, including reputation, stakeholder priorities and message discipline. Participants then learn to anticipate and prepare: scanning for emerging issues, assessing reputational risk and building response protocols. The core of the week rehearses the response itself, from the first decisions and statements to media interviews, digital channels and stakeholder engagement, followed by recovery, evaluation and the lessons that should change behaviour afterwards.
Much of the programme takes place on camera and under time pressure. Participants practise interviews, draft statements against deadlines and lead a realistic multi-stage crisis simulation, receiving direct feedback on their judgement and delivery.
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
