Fundamentals of Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course in Arusha, Tanzania
Classroom training in Arusha · next cohort Nov 9, 2026 · from USD 1,900
Rising temperatures, erratic rainfall and tightening disclosure expectations now affect budgets, supply chains and funding decisions. Organisations that can describe their climate risks and count their emissions credibly are better placed to attract finance and respond to regulators and customers. This five-day programme gives a practical entry point for people new to the field.
You start with the science and the policy landscape, including the Paris Agreement, nationally determined contributions and climate finance. Adaptation sessions cover vulnerability and risk assessment, community-based and ecosystem-based measures and resilience planning. Carbon accounting is taught step by step using the GHG Protocol: setting boundaries, collecting activity data, applying emission factors, and calculating Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions in spreadsheets. You then explore reduction targets, offsets and carbon markets, and basic reporting. It suits sustainability and environment officers, programme managers in NGOs and development agencies, county and government planners, corporate social responsibility staff, engineers, and finance professionals who need a working grounding. Delivery is by classroom in major cities, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can outline a climate action plan and prepare a first carbon inventory for your organisation.

About this course
Climate change has moved from an environmental topic to a core management concern. Farmers, utilities, cities and manufacturers in Africa already face floods, droughts and heat that disrupt operations, while investors, donors and trading partners ask for credible data on emissions and resilience. Many professionals are asked to respond without having had formal training in either the science or the measurement methods.
This programme builds that foundation. The first part explains how the climate system and greenhouse effect work, what scenarios mean for the region, and how international agreements and national policies translate into obligations and opportunities. The second part addresses adaptation: identifying hazards, exposure and vulnerability, comparing options, and designing actions that protect people, assets and ecosystems. The third part teaches carbon accounting, from defining organisational boundaries through to compiling a full inventory and setting a reduction pathway.
Learning is practical. Participants use simple calculation tools, worked data sets and local examples, and they work in groups on a climate action plan for a realistic organisation. Everyone finishes with a first-draft emissions inventory structure and an adaptation priority list.
Training Objectives
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Explain the basic science of climate change and its expected regional impacts.
- Describe the Paris Agreement, nationally determined contributions and climate finance mechanisms.

- Select and prioritise adaptation measures for communities, assets and operations.
- Set an organisational boundary and identify Scope 1, 2 and 3 emission sources.
