This course builds practical GIS and remote sensing skills for agricultural monitoring, food security early warning, and climate risk analysis. Participants work with vegetation indices (NDVI, EVI) for crop condition monitoring, rainfall and drought index analysis using satellite rainfall estimates, and crop area mapping and basic yield estimation approaches.
The course also covers climate risk mapping - overlaying rainfall variability, temperature trends, and soil data to identify vulnerable agricultural zones - and building the seasonal monitoring bulletins that food security early warning systems depend on.
