Humanitarian responses that skip rigorous needs assessment, or deliver without regard to local coping strategies and informal economies, often fail to reach the most vulnerable or inadvertently undermine community resilience. This five-day course teaches the fundamentals of humanitarian response planning: conducting rapid needs assessments that balance speed with rigor, identifying and reaching vulnerable populations, designing interventions that complement local coping mechanisms, and establishing delivery systems suited to insecure and resource-constrained environments. Participants examine case studies from regional humanitarian operations.
Practical sessions include analyzing a mock crisis scenario, developing a targeting strategy, and designing a simplified delivery system. Participants leave with tools to support effective humanitarian response planning and implementation in their own context.
