This course teaches participants to design integrated farming systems that combine crops, livestock, and sometimes aquaculture on the same land, improving resource use, income diversity, and resilience to shocks.
Single-enterprise farms are often more vulnerable to price swings, pest outbreaks, and climate shocks than operations that combine multiple, complementary enterprises. This five-day course teaches participants to design integrated farming systems that combine crops, livestock, and where relevant, aquaculture or agroforestry, on the same landholding, so that outputs from one enterprise become inputs for another. Participants study nutrient cycling, crop-livestock integration, and land-use planning techniques used to raise overall farm productivity while reducing dependence on external inputs.
Practical sessions include mapping an existing farm's enterprises and resource flows, and redesigning it as an integrated system with clearer synergies between components. Participants leave with a farm system design framework they can apply to their own operation or use to advise farmers on transitioning toward more diversified, resilient production systems.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Day 1: Principles and Benefits of Integrated Farming Systems
Day 2: Mapping Nutrient, Water and Resource Flows
Day 3: Designing Crop-Livestock Integration Models
Day 4: Adding Agroforestry and Aquaculture Components
Day 5: Trade-Offs, Synergies and the Farm Integration Plan
Integrated Farming Systems Training is built for practitioners who plan and manage mixed farming enterprises, and for the advisers who support farmers moving from single-enterprise production to integrated crop, livestock, agroforestry and aquaculture systems.
Participants who complete all five days receive a Certificate of Completion from Vision Reach Global Consultancy, confirming their ability to map resource flows across farm enterprises and design a farm-level integrated farming system plan combining crops, livestock and complementary components.
