Live Online Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Training

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 2, 2026 · from USD 800

Routine calendar spraying drives up costs, breeds pesticide resistance, kills natural enemies and leaves residues that can shut farmers out of export markets. The week opens with the principles and components of IPM, from prevention and monitoring to intervention only when it pays. You then learn to recognise the pests and diseases that matter most locally, such as fall armyworm, aphids, fruit flies and blights, and to understand the life cycles that reveal when they are most vulnerable. Field scouting sessions cover sampling patterns, recording sheets, pest counts and economic injury levels, leading to action thresholds that guide control decisions.

About this course

Reliance on chemical pesticides alone often leads to resistant pest populations, rising input costs, and residue problems that block access to premium markets. This five-day course teaches Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a structured decision-making approach that combines biological control, cultural practices, mechanical methods, and targeted chemical use to keep pest populations below economically damaging levels. Participants learn to identify major regional pests and diseases, understand their life cycles, and select control methods matched to the pest, crop, and stage of infestation, rather than defaulting to routine spraying.

Field-oriented sessions include pest scouting techniques, action threshold-setting, and building a season-long IPM plan for a specific crop. Participants also examine how to advise farmers on safe, cost-effective pesticide use where chemical control remains necessary. By the end of the course, participants can design and communicate an IPM strategy appropriate to their crop and context.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how integrated pest management (IPM) is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for components of an IPM programme, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.

Training Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop robust integrated pest management (IPM) frameworks that support successful implementation and measurable outcomes.
  • Analyze performance using recognized evaluation methods drawn from components of an IPM programme.
  • Design practical systems that strengthen accountability, transparency and evidence generation.
  • Evaluate outcomes and assess longer-term impact across a range of operating contexts.
  • Apply relevant tools, frameworks and analytical methodologies confidently and appropriately.
  • Integrate mechanical and physical control into existing organizational processes and reporting structures.
  • Strengthen decision-making and operational effectiveness through evidence-based professional practice.

Key Takeaways

By the end of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Training, participants will leave with:

  • A comprehensive working understanding of integrated pest management (IPM) principles and performance-measurement methodology.
  • Enhanced ability to design practical systems and evaluate outcomes reliably.
  • Improved competency in principles and components of IPM, reporting structures and analytical interpretation.
  • Practical techniques for translating findings into strategic insight and clear recommendations.
  • Greater confidence in applying integrated pest management (IPM) and assessing measurable results.
  • Stronger capability to support organizational learning and continuous performance improvement.
  • Improved approaches to strengthening sustainability, accountability and operational effectiveness.

Training Methodology

This training course adopts a practical, participant-centered learning approach that builds integrated pest management (IPM) expertise, strengthens analytical capability and develops confident professional judgement. The methodology combines specialist facilitation, applied hands-on experience and globally recognized professional practice, so that delegates return able to apply what they have learned immediately rather than in theory only.

Methodology includes:

  • Expert-led sessions facilitated by experienced integrated pest management (IPM) practitioners and subject-matter specialists.
  • Practical application of the frameworks, tools and techniques used in principles and components of IPM.
  • Real-world case studies drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments.
  • Tool-based demonstrations of the systems, templates and reporting applications used in current practice.
  • Interactive discussion and scenario-based learning focused on realistic challenges and decision points.
  • Structured group exercises with facilitator feedback, reinforcing learning through practice rather than lecture alone.
