This course teaches participants to combine biological, cultural, mechanical, and chemical controls into effective Integrated Pest Management strategies that reduce crop losses while limiting pesticide use and cost.
Reliance on chemical pesticides alone often leads to resistant pest populations, rising input costs, and residue problems that block access to premium markets. This five-day course teaches Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a structured decision-making approach that combines biological control, cultural practices, mechanical methods, and targeted chemical use to keep pest populations below economically damaging levels. Participants learn to identify major regional pests and diseases, understand their life cycles, and select control methods matched to the pest, crop, and stage of infestation, rather than defaulting to routine spraying.
Field-oriented sessions include pest scouting techniques, action threshold-setting, and building a season-long IPM plan for a specific crop. Participants also examine how to advise farmers on safe, cost-effective pesticide use where chemical control remains necessary. By the end of the course, participants can design and communicate an IPM strategy appropriate to their crop and context.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Day 1: Principles and Components of IPM
Day 2: Identifying Pests and Understanding Life Cycles
Day 3: Field Scouting and Economic Thresholds
Day 4: Biological, Cultural and Mechanical Controls
Day 5: Safe Chemical Use and Season-Long IPM Planning
This course teaches farmers and agronomists to control pests effectively while reducing pesticide cost and resistance risk.
Participants who complete the five days receive a Certificate of Completion from Vision Reach Global Consultancy, confirming their grounding in Integrated Pest Management principles and field application.
