Good programmes often fail to change anything beyond their own project boundaries because nobody has turned results into a case that decision makers act on. Over five days, managers learn to run advocacy as a disciplined function with objectives, budgets, risks and measurable milestones, rather than an occasional press release. Sessions cover theory of change for advocacy, power and stakeholder mapping, policy cycle entry points, message development, policy briefs, media and social media tactics, and campaign planning.
The second half turns to relationships. You examine coalition building, memoranda of understanding, partner due diligence, donor engagement, conflict between partners and exit planning, then set up monitoring tools such as outcome harvesting and contribution analysis to show what your influence achieved. Exercises use realistic scenarios from health, education, climate and civic space work. It suits programme managers, policy and advocacy officers, communications leads, NGO directors, civil society network coordinators, government liaison staff and development partner representatives. Delivery is classroom, online or in-house, and a CPD-accredited certificate follows. You leave able to write an advocacy plan, brief a minister and structure a partnership agreement that holds up under pressure.
Governments, parliaments and funders respond to organisations that bring credible evidence, a clear request and a trusted relationship. Many NGOs, networks and public bodies have strong technical work but weak routes into the decisions that determine whether it scales. Meanwhile, shrinking funding and tighter civic space mean that partnerships and coalitions have to be managed with the same rigour as any other programme.
This programme gives managers a complete system for planning, running and reviewing influence work. Participants start with advocacy theory of change and the policy process, then analyse stakeholders, craft messages and prepare policy briefs and submissions. Later sessions address campaign management, risk and safeguarding in sensitive advocacy, and the governance of partnerships, from selecting partners and agreeing roles to managing disputes and reporting to donors.
Teaching blends short inputs with live case work. Participants apply each tool to an issue from their own organisation, so that by the final session they have a draft advocacy strategy, a stakeholder map, a partnership framework and a simple results framework ready for internal review.
