Live Online Monitoring and Evaluation of Data Protection & Privacy (DPO) Training Course
Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 2, 2026 · from USD 800
Regulators and boards no longer accept a privacy policy and a signed register as proof of compliance. Under the accountability principle, organisations must show evidence that their controls operate, that rights requests are answered on time and that breaches are detected and reported within deadlines. Five days equip data protection officers and assurance staff to design that evidence base. Topics include privacy programme logic models, compliance monitoring plans, key performance and key risk indicators, quality reviews of records of processing activities and data protection impact assessments, and metrics for consent, retention and data subject requests.
Later sessions cover privacy audits using ISO 19011 techniques, processor and vendor assurance, maturity assessment against the NIST Privacy Framework and ISO/IEC 27701, evaluating awareness training, and building a privacy dashboard and annual DPO report. It suits DPOs, privacy and compliance officers, internal auditors, information security managers, legal counsel and risk officers in banks, telecoms, health, insurance, technology firms, NGOs and government. Afterwards you can monitor a programme continuously, evaluate whether it is reducing privacy risk and present findings that drive action. Delivery is classroom, online or in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.

About this course
Data protection laws now in force across much of Africa, alongside the GDPR for organisations that serve European clients, place the burden of proof on the data controller. It is not enough to appoint a data protection officer and publish a privacy notice; organisations must be able to demonstrate, with evidence, that personal data is processed lawfully, that risks are assessed and that controls work in practice. Many privacy programmes struggle at exactly this point because nobody has defined what success looks like or how it will be measured.
The Monitoring and Evaluation of Data Protection & Privacy (DPO) Training Course applies structured monitoring and evaluation discipline to the privacy function. It opens with a results framework for a privacy programme, then builds a compliance monitoring plan, indicator set and data collection routine. Participants learn to test the quality of records of processing, DPIAs, consent and retention controls, to audit processors and internal units, and to assess programme maturity. The course closes with evaluation of whether the programme is changing behaviour and reducing risk, and with reporting to management, boards and supervisory authorities.
Work is hands-on throughout, using a case organisation's privacy documents, sample request and breach logs and a spreadsheet dashboard that participants build and refine across the week.
Training Objectives
After the course, participants will be able to:
- Develop a results framework and logic model for an organisation's privacy programme.
- Design a risk-based compliance monitoring plan covering business units, systems and processors.
- Select key performance and key risk indicators for rights requests, breaches, DPIAs, consent and retention.
- Review records of processing activities and DPIAs for completeness, accuracy and currency.
- Plan and conduct privacy audits and processor assessments using structured audit techniques.
- Assess privacy programme maturity against recognised frameworks such as the NIST Privacy Framework and ISO/IEC 27701.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of privacy awareness training and policy changes.
- Prepare dashboards and an annual DPO report that support management decisions.
