Live Online Operational Excellence in Digital Agritech for Smallholders Training Course
Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Nov 9, 2026 · from USD 800
Many agritech services win pilots but struggle to run reliably for tens of thousands of farmers on small margins. Late input delivery, inactive agents, poor data and slow support quickly erode trust in rural markets. Five days focus on the operating side of these businesses. You map and improve processes using lean and process mapping methods, then apply them to farmer registration, KYC and onboarding, mobile money and USSD or app-based advisory, input and output logistics, agent recruitment and incentives, call centre and WhatsApp support, and payment collection. Performance sessions cover service levels, unit economics, cohort retention, quality assurance of field data, and dashboards for daily operations.
The programme is designed for operations managers, product and customer success leads, field and agent network coordinators, cooperative managers, extension and digital agriculture programme staff, and investors or donors who support agritech ventures. It is delivered in classroom format in 18 cities, online, or in-house for a team, and ends with a CPD-accredited certificate. Afterwards you can diagnose bottlenecks, set practical service standards, strengthen field agent performance and present an improvement plan backed by operational data.

About this course
Digital tools for smallholders, such as advisory platforms, input marketplaces, mobile payments, credit scoring and satellite-based insurance, have multiplied across East Africa. Their promise depends on execution in difficult conditions: patchy connectivity, seasonal demand, dispersed customers and low willingness to pay. Teams often invest heavily in technology and underinvest in the routines that make the service dependable season after season.
This course concentrates on those routines. Participants start by mapping the end-to-end farmer journey and the back-office processes behind it, then identify waste, delays and failure points. They study how to design and manage agent networks, handle logistics for inputs and produce, support farmers through voice, SMS and messaging channels, and keep farmer data accurate enough to drive decisions. The later days deal with measurement: service-level targets, cost to serve, adoption, repeat use, churn and field team productivity, followed by continuous improvement cycles and incident management.
Content is practical throughout. Participants use sample operational data and process maps from real service types, and leave with a redesigned process, a metrics dashboard outline and a 90-day improvement plan.
