Live Online Planning and Implementation of Contract Management & Administration (FIDIC) Training Course
Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 1,700
Disputes on construction and infrastructure projects are often set in motion before the first excavator arrives: an unsuitable standard form, Particular Conditions that shift risk ambiguously, an Engineer appointed without clear delegated authority, or no agreed way of logging notices from day one. Over ten days you plan and then deliver a FIDIC contract from both the Employer's and the Contractor's side. You compare the 2017 Red, Yellow and Silver Books with the Pink Book used on many lender-funded works, prepare Contract Data and Particular Conditions, and build an administration plan covering roles, correspondence, records and meetings.
Week two turns to execution under pressure. Applied labs cover programme review, extension of time and delay analysis, valuing variations, interim payment certificates, the Clause 20 claims procedure with its 28-day notice requirement, Engineer's determinations and DAAB referrals, then taking over and the final account. An integrated project on a road or water contract ties it together. Contract managers, quantity surveyors, resident engineers, project managers, procurement officers and in-house lawyers in public agencies, consultancies and contracting firms will benefit. You leave able to set up administration that stands up to scrutiny. Classroom, online and in-house delivery lead to a CPD-accredited certificate.

About this course
Governments, utilities and development finance institutions across Africa procure roads, bridges, water schemes, power plants and public buildings on FIDIC conditions, and lenders frequently require their use. Yet many of the disputes that later reach a Dispute Avoidance/Adjudication Board or arbitration can be traced to choices made at the planning stage: a form that does not match where design responsibility sits, amendments that contradict the General Conditions, incomplete Contract Data, or a site team that never agreed how notices and records would be handled. Sound administration is planned, resourced and systematic rather than improvised once problems appear.
The Planning and Implementation of Contract Management & Administration (FIDIC) Training Course follows a works contract from procurement strategy to final payment. Days one to five cover choosing between the main FIDIC books, drafting Particular Conditions, the roles of Employer, Engineer and Contractor, mobilisation and commencement, the contract administration plan, programme and progress control, measurement, variations and interim payment. Days six to ten deepen these skills through labs on delay analysis and extension of time, cost claims and quantum, the claims and determination procedure of the 2017 editions, completion, defects and the final account, and dispute avoidance and termination, closing with an integrated planning project.
Participants work throughout on a realistic contract file containing programmes, correspondence, site records and payment applications, taking the parts of Employer, Engineer and Contractor in turn. Each person finishes with a contract administration plan, a set of registers and templates, and a worked claim and determination to adapt for their own projects.
Training Objectives
Participants completing the programme will be able to:
- Select the FIDIC form that fits a project's design responsibility, risk profile and source of funding.
- Draft Contract Data and Particular Conditions that amend the General Conditions without creating conflicts.
- Plan the mobilisation phase, including performance security, advance payment, site access and the Engineer's delegations.
- Establish a contract administration plan with registers for notices, instructions, variations, claims and correspondence.
- Review a Contractor's programme and apply recognised delay analysis methods to extension of time entitlement.
- Value variations and prepare or check interim payment applications and certificates.
- Manage claims through the Clause 20 procedure and the Engineer's agreement or determination under the 2017 Red Book.
- Plan taking over, the Defects Notification Period, the final account and the avoidance or resolution of disputes.
