Priority Management Training

When every request arrives labelled urgent, capable people end up firefighting all day and the work that really matters slips quietly behind. The week replaces reactive habits with triage thinking, teaching you to assess each task's urgency, importance, effort and consequences before committing to it. Structured prioritisation frameworks such as the Eisenhower matrix, MoSCoW and impact-effort scoring are applied to your own task list rather than textbook examples. A full day covers negotiating priorities with multiple supervisors or stakeholders who each believe their request comes first.

You also practise the delegate, defer and decline choices that control how much work enters your queue, and how to renegotiate deadlines professionally when commitments collide. Role plays rehearse the conversations people tend to avoid, such as telling a senior manager that a deadline cannot be met as requested. The final day focuses on communicating decisions, keeping stakeholders informed and sustaining control over the long term. Administrative staff, officers, team leaders, project coordinators and executive assistants who serve several bosses will find it highly practical. You return with a prioritisation routine you can apply every morning.

About this course

Competing deadlines and conflicting instructions from multiple supervisors are a daily reality for many professionals, and without a clear method for deciding what matters most, the loudest request usually wins regardless of actual importance. This course teaches structured prioritisation frameworks, including urgent-versus-important matrices and MoSCoW-style triage, so participants can make defensible decisions about what to do first, defer, or decline.

Sessions cover negotiating priorities with multiple supervisors, renegotiating deadlines professionally, and delegating tasks that do not require the participant's personal attention. Participants leave with a practical decision framework they can apply the same day to an actual backlog of competing tasks.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how priority management is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for delegate, defer, decline — controlling intake, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
