Live Online Professional Deposit Insurance & Financial Stability Training Course

Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 800

Public confidence in banks depends on depositors believing their savings are safe. Deposit insurers, central banks, supervisors and finance ministries share the job of sustaining that belief, and failures of coordination are costly when a bank gets into difficulty. This five-day programme gives experienced practitioners a rigorous view of how deposit insurance schemes are designed and run. Participants examine coverage limits, membership, funding models, risk-based premiums, fund investment and governance, using the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems as a reference point.

About this course

A bank failure is rarely a surprise to those who watch the numbers, but how it is handled determines whether it stays an isolated event or spreads to the wider system. Well-designed deposit insurance limits panic, protects ordinary savers and gives authorities time to resolve the problem in an orderly way.

The Professional Deposit Insurance & Financial Stability Training Course starts with the financial safety net and the economics of bank runs, then examines how schemes are structured around mandate, coverage, membership and funding. Participants study how premiums are assessed, how a target fund size is chosen, and how reserves are invested prudently and kept liquid. The second half concentrates on operations: monitoring risk in member institutions, coordinating with supervisors and resolution authorities, preparing single customer view data, and paying depositors quickly and accurately.

The course is analytical and discussion based. Delegates work with illustrative bank data, practise a payout planning exercise and take part in a resolution simulation, then compare their own national frameworks with international practice and identify practical reforms.

Training Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role of deposit insurance within the financial safety net and its link to financial stability.
  • Compare design features such as coverage level, scope, membership and mandate.
  • Evaluate funding approaches, target fund ratios and ex-ante and ex-post contributions.
  • Apply risk-based premium assessment using financial indicators.
  • Describe prudent investment and liquidity management for an insurance fund.
  • Outline resolution options available when a bank fails and the insurer's role in each.
  • Plan depositor reimbursement, including data requirements and communication.
  • Assess coordination arrangements between the insurer, supervisor and central bank.
