On most construction and infrastructure projects, money is lost less through bad engineering than through missed notices, vague instructions, undocumented changes and disputes that escalate because nobody recorded what happened. Five days teach employers, engineers and contractors how to run a FIDIC contract so that risk is allocated deliberately and managed daily. You study how the Red, Yellow and Silver Book conditions distribute design, ground, unforeseeable and force majeure risks, and how the Engineer's duties and determinations work in practice.
Sessions then follow the project: building a contract risk register, time-barred notices and contemporaneous records, variations and valuation, extensions of time, delay and disruption, payment certificates, securities and insurance, termination, and the claim and dispute avoidance process including dispute boards and arbitration. Delivery is in the classroom, online or in-house. Contract managers, project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, legal advisers, employer representatives and procurement officers on public and donor-funded works will find it directly useful. Afterwards you can draft a notice, assemble a claim and brief management on exposure, and you receive a CPD-accredited certificate.
Large works contracts concentrate risk. A late site handover, a design change or unexpected ground conditions can push a project months behind and into disputes that cost more than the original problem. The FIDIC suite is widely used across Africa on roads, water, energy, housing and public buildings, often under development partner funding, and its procedures are strict about who must do what, and by when.
The Risk Management for Contract Management & Administration (FIDIC) Training Course shows participants how to turn those procedures into a working risk control system. It begins with the structure of the FIDIC forms and the principle of risk allocation, then equips participants to build and maintain a contract risk register. Delegates learn the notice regime, the roles of the Employer, Engineer and Contractor, how variations are instructed and valued, how time and money claims are built, and how payment, retention, securities and insurance protect each party.
The final sessions concentrate on avoiding and resolving disputes through early warning, engineer determinations, dispute boards and arbitration. Teaching uses a running case project, clause-by-clause workshops and drafting exercises, so participants leave with templates and a practical routine for administering their own contracts.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
