Live Online Strategic Data Governance, Quality & Stewardship Training Course
Live online, instructor-led · next cohort Oct 26, 2026 · from USD 800
Dashboards disagree, customer records are duplicated, reports take weeks to reconcile and nobody can say who is allowed to change a field. These are symptoms of missing governance, and they grow worse as organisations adopt cloud platforms, self-service analytics and machine learning. This five-day programme gives senior data and business leaders a strategy for fixing the cause. You define a governance charter, an operating model and decision rights, then establish data owners, custodians and stewards with realistic responsibilities.
Sessions teach how to design quality dimensions such as accuracy, completeness, timeliness and consistency, measure them with scorecards, trace issues to root cause and agree remediation. You also work with business glossaries, metadata catalogues, lineage, master and reference data, classification, retention and access policy, and the DAMA-DMBOK and DCAM frameworks. A strand on privacy and data protection shows how governance supports compliance. The programme suits chief data officers, heads of analytics, information managers, IT and business architects, risk and compliance leads, and public-sector records and statistics officers. Afterwards you can present a governance roadmap with measurable milestones and engage executives who control budgets. Formats include classroom, online and in-house, with a CPD-accredited certificate.

About this course
Organisations hold more data than ever, yet leaders often cannot trust the numbers in front of them. Poor data quality leads to wrong decisions, failed digital projects, regulatory breaches and expensive manual clean-up. As artificial intelligence and automated decisions spread, the consequences of bad or unmanaged data become larger and harder to explain.
The programme treats governance as a business capability rather than a technology purchase. It starts with the strategic case, maturity assessment and alignment to organisational priorities. It then covers governance structures, committees, policies, standards and the allocation of ownership and stewardship roles. Participants learn how to define and measure data quality, run issue management and root cause analysis, and embed controls in business processes. Further sessions address metadata, cataloguing, lineage, master data, data sharing agreements, classification, privacy and security, and the governance of analytics and AI inputs.
Delivery combines facilitated workshops, templates and scenario exercises. Teams draft a charter, a stewardship model and a prioritised roadmap for an organisation of their choosing, and leave with materials that can be taken to an executive sponsor.
Training Objectives
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- Make the business case for data governance and secure executive sponsorship.
- Assess governance maturity using recognised frameworks and set a target state.
- Design a governance operating model with councils, decision rights and escalation paths.
- Assign ownership and stewardship roles and define what each is accountable for.
- Define data quality rules and metrics, and build a quality scorecard.
- Establish metadata, catalogue and lineage practices that support reuse and audit.
- Link governance to privacy, security, retention and AI-readiness requirements.
