Transport Administration and Management Training

Transport is one of the largest controllable costs in many organisations, and it also carries legal and safety exposure every time a vehicle leaves the yard. The week begins with route planning and scheduling, balancing delivery windows, distances, vehicle capacity and driver hours. Driver management sessions cover recruitment checks, performance appraisal, defensive driving, accident reporting and safety compliance. You will then work through regulatory requirements, including vehicle licensing, inspection, insurance, axle load limits, tax obligations and the documentation that must travel with each load.

Fuel and cost control sessions show how to set consumption benchmarks, detect fuel fraud and compare in-house operations against outsourced transport. The final day builds a performance monitoring system with KPIs such as cost per kilometre, on-time delivery, vehicle utilisation and incident rates, and turns them into management reports. Exercises use sample trip logs, fuel records and compliance checklists. Transport officers, fleet and logistics managers, administration staff responsible for vehicles and procurement officers will relate to every scenario. You head back ready to run a compliant, cost-controlled transport function and report its performance clearly to management.

About this course

This 5-day course covers all aspects of transport operations management, from vehicle procurement and maintenance scheduling to driver oversight and route optimization. Participants learn transport regulations, tax implications, and documentation requirements across multiple African regions.

The programme emphasizes practical skills including dispatch management, fuel tracking, toll administration, and safety compliance, enabling professionals to reduce transport costs while maintaining service quality and regulatory standards.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public procurement bodies, commercial supply chains, logistics operations, and donor-funded tendering environments, examining how transport administration and management is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for fuel and cost control, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
