WaterGEMS: Hydraulics Modeling Training Course

Water utilities lose money and customer trust when networks run at the wrong pressures, pumps burn excess energy and new connections are approved without knowing whether the system can cope. Across ten days you build and calibrate distribution network models in Bentley WaterGEMS, starting with hydraulic principles, head loss equations and the elements that make up a model. You import pipe, node and elevation data from CAD and GIS sources, configure reservoirs, tanks, valves and pumps, and check the network for connectivity errors. Steady-state and extended-period simulations then show how flows, velocities and pressures behave through a daily demand cycle.

Later modules cover demand allocation and forecasting, pressure management zones, fire-flow analysis and pump scheduling for energy efficiency, followed by advanced techniques such as scenario management, calibration against field data and optimisation tools. Practical work centres on a sample town network that you extend, analyse and report on from start to finish. Water engineers, utility planners, consulting engineers, county water officers and technicians who design or operate supply schemes are well placed to apply it. You finish able to model an existing network, test expansion options and present hydraulic results that support investment decisions.

About this course

The WaterGEMS: Hydraulics Modeling Training Course is designed for professionals who need practical, current command of WaterGEMS: hydraulics modeling and the ability to translate it into measurable organizational results. As expectations around accountability, efficiency and demonstrable results continue to rise, organizations increasingly depend on staff who can apply structured approaches rather than improvise. This certified programme combines proven methodology with hands-on application, covering water demand estimation, pressure and flow analysis and the analytical techniques that underpin sound professional judgement.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how WaterGEMS: hydraulics modeling is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for water demand estimation, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
