GIS Mapping and Spatial Analysis using ArcGIS Desktop Training in Kenya

Classroom cohorts in Mombasa, Naivasha, Nairobi, Kisumu, Machakos · live online · in-house anywhere in Kenya

Almost every sector now relies on maps to plan services, manage assets and report results, and ArcGIS remains a standard desktop platform for that work. The ten days start with GIS fundamentals, the ArcMap and ArcCatalog interfaces and the geodatabase model for storing vector and raster data. You then apply coordinate systems and projections correctly, avoiding the misaligned layers and distorted measurements that undermine analysis. Data creation sessions cover digitising, editing, georeferencing scanned maps and joining tables to spatial features.

Geoprocessing modules use buffer, clip, intersect, union, dissolve and spatial join to answer practical questions about proximity, overlap and coverage. Attribute and spatial queries extract the features that matter, while symbology, labelling and layout tools turn results into professional maps. Later sessions touch on data quality, metadata and sharing outputs with colleagues and decision makers. Planners, surveyors, environmental officers, health and M&E staff, researchers and anyone new to GIS will build skills step by step. By the end you can manage spatial data, run core analyses and produce clear maps for reports.

About this course

This course takes participants from ArcGIS fundamentals to independent spatial analysis using ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro workflows. Topics include the ArcGIS geodatabase model, coordinate systems and projections, vector and raster data management, and core geoprocessing tools such as buffer, clip, intersect, and spatial join.

Participants build toward cartographic production standards - symbology, labelling, and layout design for professional map output - and complete a full spatial analysis project using ArcGIS's geoprocessing toolbox on a real-world dataset of their choosing.

Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how GIS mapping and spatial analysis using arcgis desktop is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for strategy and integration, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.

Training Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop robust GIS mapping and spatial analysis using arcgis desktop frameworks that support successful implementation and measurable outcomes.
  • Analyze performance using recognized evaluation methods drawn from strategy and integration.
  • Design practical systems that strengthen accountability, transparency and evidence generation.
  • Evaluate outcomes and assess longer-term impact across a range of operating contexts.
  • Apply relevant tools, frameworks and analytical methodologies confidently and appropriately.
  • Integrate assessment and measurement into existing organizational processes and reporting structures.
  • Strengthen decision-making and operational effectiveness through evidence-based professional practice.
