Strategy and Innovation in Cloud, DevOps, FinOps & Platform Engineering Training Course in Kenya

Classroom cohorts in Nairobi, Mombasa, Naivasha, Kisumu, Machakos · live online · in-house anywhere in Kenya

Cloud bills that climb faster than revenue, release pipelines that stall and developers who wait days for an environment are signs of a platform without a strategy. Ten days give senior engineers and technology leaders the means to fix this. The first week sets direction: cloud adoption strategy, multi-cloud and hybrid choices, landing zones, security and governance, DevOps metrics such as the DORA measures, and the principles of FinOps. The second week goes deeper into infrastructure as code with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, containers and Kubernetes, observability, site reliability practice, policy as code and internal developer platforms.

Cloud architects, DevOps and platform engineers, site reliability engineers, engineering managers, IT directors, CTOs and technical finance partners in banks, telecoms, fintech and the public sector are the target audience. Delivery is by classroom, online or in-house, with labs on a major public cloud. A capstone project reviews a real platform design and cost plan. Afterwards you can produce a platform roadmap, justify investments and run a cost optimisation cycle. Completion brings a CPD-accredited certificate.

About this course

Cloud has moved from experiment to the core of how organisations operate, and with that shift come harder questions. Leaders must decide which workloads belong where, how to keep delivery fast without losing control, and how to stop cloud spending from becoming the largest unmanaged line in the budget. Tools alone do not answer these questions; they require strategy, standards and a culture that links engineering to value.

The Strategy and Innovation in Cloud, DevOps, FinOps & Platform Engineering Training Course spans both direction and execution. The first five days establish the strategic foundation: cloud operating models, architecture principles, landing zone and account design, identity and security baselines, regulatory and data residency considerations, DevOps maturity and the FinOps lifecycle of inform, optimise and operate. Participants create a strategy outline and a target operating model.

The second half is intensely technical and applied. Participants automate infrastructure with code, build deployment pipelines, run containerised services on Kubernetes, instrument systems for observability, define service level objectives and design a self-service platform for developers. They then apply unit economics, tagging, rightsizing and commitment planning to cut waste. A capstone challenge brings every strand together in a defensible platform proposal that participants present for critique.

Training Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a cloud adoption strategy and target operating model for an organisation.
  • Design secure, well-governed landing zones across accounts and environments.
  • Measure delivery performance using DORA metrics and improve flow.
  • Provision infrastructure repeatably using Terraform and version control.
  • Build and secure CI/CD pipelines for containerised applications.
  • Operate workloads on Kubernetes with sound scaling and release practices.
  • Define observability, service level objectives and incident processes.
  • Implement FinOps practices including tagging, allocation and optimisation, and plan an internal developer platform.

Key Takeaways

Delegates leave with:

  • A cloud strategy outline and target operating model for their organisation.
  • A reference landing zone design with governance guardrails.
  • Working Terraform and pipeline examples built during the labs.
  • An observability and service level objective starter set.
  • A FinOps playbook covering allocation, optimisation and reporting.
  • A platform engineering roadmap with prioritised investments.
  • A capstone proposal reviewed by peers and facilitators.

Training Methodology

The ten days alternate strategic discussion with deep technical practice:

  • Hands-on labs on a public cloud sandbox provided for the course
  • Architecture review boards where groups defend design choices
  • Cost analysis exercises using anonymised billing exports
  • A multi-day capstone built around a realistic case organisation
  • Facilitator-led retrospectives that connect lab results to participants' own platforms
