Monetary policy is only as effective as the operations that carry it out. Central banks in emerging and frontier markets face volatile capital flows, shallow money markets, currency pressure and the need to maintain credibility, and so their operations teams need technical depth as well as sound judgement.
The Advanced Central Banking & Monetary Operations Training Course connects policy theory with the daily mechanics of market operations. It starts with policy objectives and frameworks, moves to liquidity management and the instruments used to steer short-term rates, and then turns to reserve management, foreign exchange operations and the central bank balance sheet. Later sessions cover payment systems, financial stability tools and the way communication shapes expectations.
Participants work through worked examples, balance sheet exercises and a simulated monetary policy committee. The course assumes prior familiarity with macroeconomics and financial markets, and leaves participants better able to analyse operations and advise on design improvements within their own institutions. Discussion draws on the experience of central banks across Africa and other emerging regions, so that examples reflect the constraints participants actually face.
