Workplaces in Africa and elsewhere are adapting to hotter seasons, heavier rainfall and unpredictable weather, while the pressures of modern work have made stress, burnout, bullying and harassment recognised causes of ill-health. Safety professionals trained mainly in physical hazards are now asked to manage both, and to show their organisations that they have done so systematically.
Advanced Climate-Related and Psychosocial Workplace Risk Training Course assumes participants already know the basics of risk assessment. It starts by linking climate hazards and psychosocial hazards in one picture, then moves to detailed methods. Participants study heat exposure and thermal comfort, outdoor and indoor work in extreme weather, flood and storm preparedness, air quality and vector-borne disease concerns. The psychosocial strand covers the main work-related factors, including demand, control, support, role clarity, organisational change and violence at work, followed by survey and interview tools, intervention design and evaluation.
The final sessions integrate both strands into policy, management system procedures, leadership commitment and reporting. Participants work on case files from their own sectors, and leave with a draft integrated risk assessment and an implementation plan.
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
