Deposit insurance is one of the main safety nets in any financial system, yet its credibility is tested only when a member institution fails. Recent bank failures in several jurisdictions showed how fast deposits can move once confidence slips, especially when customers can withdraw through mobile banking in minutes. Insurers and resolution authorities are under pressure to reimburse depositors faster, fund themselves adequately and coordinate closely with supervisors before problems become crises.
The Advanced Deposit Insurance & Financial Stability Training Course is designed for professionals who already understand the basics of deposit protection. It examines advanced mandate design, from paybox to risk minimiser, and the governance and independence questions that come with each. Participants model fund adequacy and loss scenarios, evaluate premium systems that reflect member risk, and test the data and IT readiness needed for rapid reimbursement. The course then turns to resolution: early intervention triggers, choice of resolution tool, least-cost analysis, depositor preference and the funding of resolution actions. Final sessions address systemic crises, cross-border coordination, public awareness strategy and lessons from recent failures.
Each day combines technical briefings with modelling exercises in Excel, case analysis of bank failures and a closing crisis simulation in which teams act as the deposit insurer, supervisor, central bank and ministry of finance.
