Productive farming depends on ecosystem services that are often invisible until they fail: pollination, natural pest control, soil fertility, and water regulation. This ten-day course examines the relationship between agricultural biodiversity and these services, teaching participants to assess the state of biodiversity on a farm or landscape and to identify practices — from crop diversification to habitat conservation — that protect the ecological functions farming depends on. Participants study regional case studies where biodiversity loss has measurably reduced yields, alongside examples of biodiversity-friendly farming that sustained or improved production.
Practical sessions include conducting a simple on-farm biodiversity assessment, mapping ecosystem service dependencies for a specific farming system, and designing conservation-compatible practices such as agroforestry, hedgerows, and integrated pest management. Participants leave with a framework for integrating biodiversity considerations into farm planning and extension advice.
Throughout the programme, participants work through realistic scenarios drawn from public sector institutions, private enterprises, development organizations, and regulated professional environments, examining how agricultural biodiversity and ecosystem services is applied in practice and where it most often breaks down. Delegates will develop practical skill in designing appropriate frameworks, selecting and applying the right tools for on-farm biodiversity assessment, interpreting findings, and communicating conclusions clearly to colleagues, management and external stakeholders. Sessions move deliberately from principles to application, so that each technique introduced is practised against a realistic problem before the programme moves on — strengthening both individual effectiveness and the wider capability of the organizations delegates return to.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Pollination, soil biota, and natural pest control sit at the centre of this ten-day programme, which serves technical staff and advisors who make decisions about how land is farmed and how biodiversity is managed within it.
By the end of the Agricultural Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Training, participants will leave with:
This training course adopts a practical, participant-centered learning approach that builds agricultural biodiversity and ecosystem services expertise, strengthens analytical capability and develops confident professional judgement. The methodology combines specialist facilitation, applied hands-on experience and globally recognized professional practice, so that delegates return able to apply what they have learned immediately rather than in theory only.
Methodology includes:
Participants who complete all ten days receive a Certificate of Completion from Vision Reach Global Consultancy, confirming they can conduct on-farm biodiversity assessments, map ecosystem service dependencies for a farming system, and advise on biodiversity-friendly farming practices.
Issued on completion of the programme, the certificate evidences both attendance and active participation, and is accepted by employers and professional bodies across the public, private and development sectors. Verification is available from Vision Reach Global Consultancy on request.
