In most workplaces, written communication is the main record of what was decided and why. Poorly drafted correspondence slows approvals, while inaccurate or biased minutes can lead to disputes, missed deadlines and weak governance. Staff who write well and record meetings accurately become trusted colleagues whose documents are used rather than rewritten.
This Applied Business Writing & Minute Taking Training Course combines two connected skills. The writing strand covers analysing the reader, structuring messages, writing in plain English, editing for brevity, and producing emails, memos, letters, proposals and short reports to a professional standard. The minute-taking strand covers meeting preparation, note-taking methods, the difference between narrative and resolution-style minutes, recording motions and decisions, tracking actions, and the confidentiality and legal care that apply to formal bodies such as boards and committees.
Participants write and edit throughout. They bring real examples, revise them in class, and take part in simulated meetings in which minutes are produced and compared. By the final day each participant has a personal style checklist, a minute template and a revised sample document.
