Monetary authorities in emerging and developed economies face a demanding mix of price pressure, exchange rate swings and expectations about their independence. Decisions taken in the policy committee room only work if the operational machinery beneath them can steer short-term interest rates and liquidity reliably. Staff who understand both layers are essential to institutional credibility.
The programme opens with monetary policy frameworks and the channels through which interest rate and liquidity changes reach prices and output. It then examines daily operations: liquidity forecasting, the interbank market, auctions, repo and reverse repo, standing facilities and reserve requirements. Further sessions deal with foreign exchange policy, reserves management principles and the central bank balance sheet. The course also reviews financial stability responsibilities, supervision interfaces, payment systems and crisis tools, and closes with governance, transparency and communication practice.
Learning methods include structured lectures, numerical exercises, a policy committee simulation and comparative case material from different regions. Participants finish with a clear operational toolkit and the ability to present reasoned recommendations to senior colleagues, whether in a market operations desk, a research unit or a ministry of finance.
