Infrastructure built today must perform through decades of hotter, wetter and more erratic weather. Across Africa, bridges, ports, irrigation schemes, power plants and urban drainage are already exposed to flooding, sea-level rise and heat stress. If the contract does not say who bears climate-driven delay, damage and extra cost, the answer is decided later by lawyers, insurers and arbitrators rather than by design.
The Climate Adaptation and Resilience Clauses in Infrastructure and PPP Contracts Training Course follows the contract from tender to handback. It starts with climate hazard and vulnerability screening, then shows how findings are converted into design standards, output specifications and performance indicators. Participants then examine risk allocation between public authority, concessionaire, contractor and lender, and learn to draft or negotiate force majeure, change in law, relief and compensation events, adaptation reopeners, insurance requirements and termination provisions.
Teaching is clause-focused and practical. Participants mark up extracts from real-style agreements, test wording against extreme-event scenarios and leave with a resilience clause library, a risk allocation matrix and a negotiation brief they can take straight into their next project.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
