Oil and gas projects carry some of the largest and most volatile budgets in any industry. Commodity price swings, long-lead equipment, remote sites and tight regulatory approvals mean that a small slip in scope control can turn into millions of dollars of overrun. Operators, EPC contractors and national oil companies are under constant pressure to deliver facilities within sanctioned budgets while still funding safe, reliable operations.
This programme follows the cost lifecycle of a petroleum project. Participants start with estimating and the structure of a cost baseline, then move to budgeting, cost coding and contingency management. The middle days focus on performance measurement with earned value, forecasting estimate at completion, commitment tracking and the discipline of change management. The closing sessions turn to optimisation: value engineering, procurement and contracting strategies, operating cost reduction and lessons learned at close-out.
Learning is practical. Delegates work with sample cost reports, S-curves, trend registers and capex and opex models, and they present their findings to a mock project review board. Each person finishes with a cost control framework that can be adapted to a live project in their own organisation.
