Animal production has become a numbers business. Rising feed prices, disease pressure, tighter buyer specifications and demands for traceability mean that gut feeling no longer protects margins. Yet many fish farms, poultry units and livestock enterprises still keep paper records that are never analysed, or digital records that nobody trusts.
This programme shows how to move from scattered records to usable analytics. Participants start by defining the key performance indicators that matter in each production system, including survival, feed conversion, growth rates, laying percentage, milk yield, stocking density and cost of production. They learn to design simple recording systems, clean and validate the data, and summarise it with pivot tables, charts and interactive dashboards. Later sessions introduce benchmarking between batches, houses, ponds and herds, basic statistical comparison, early warning signals for disease and water quality problems, and forecasting of harvests, feed requirements and cash flow.
Learning is hands-on. Participants work with realistic datasets from tilapia and catfish ponds, broiler and layer houses, and dairy and beef herds, then apply the same methods to their own records. The course ends with a tailored dashboard and an action plan for embedding data review in weekly and monthly farm management.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
