Monetary policy and operations now draw on far more data than a decade ago: high-frequency payments records, mobile money statistics, credit registry files, market prices and survey results. The challenge for central banking staff is no longer finding data but turning it into timely, reliable analysis that supports a decision. Poor data handling, untested models and unclear charts can mislead a policy committee or leave a liquidity shortfall undetected.
The Data and Analytics for Central Banking & Monetary Operations Training Course equips analysts to work with this information in a disciplined way. Participants start with the data pipeline, covering sources, validation, revisions, seasonal adjustment and documentation. They then apply analytical methods to the main tasks of a monetary policy department: tracking inflation and output, nowcasting, forecasting liquidity and reserve money, estimating yield curves and examining pass-through from the policy rate to market and lending rates. A further session addresses financial stability indicators and payment system data.
Each topic is taught through hands-on exercises using prepared datasets in Excel and Python. Participants practise building simple dashboards and writing short analytical notes for decision-makers, with attention to model limits and uncertainty. They finish with a reusable workflow template and a plan for strengthening analytical routines at their institution.
