Chemical and laboratory environments generate a steady stream of data, from incident reports and inspection checklists to monitoring results and alarm histories. Used well, it reveals where controls are weakening long before a serious event. Used badly, it ends up in folders and annual reports that explain last year's accidents but do not prevent next year's.
This programme teaches participants to treat safety information as an operational asset. It starts by defining what to measure and how to record events consistently, then builds skills in data cleaning, descriptive analysis and visual reporting. Delegates explore leading indicators such as overdue inspections, permit quality and alarm response times alongside lagging indicators such as injury and release rates. They also learn to apply trend analysis, statistical process control and simple risk scoring to chemical handling, storage, laboratory work and process operations, and to communicate findings in language that managers and regulators respect.
Teaching is laboratory style. Participants analyse anonymised datasets, build dashboards, and finish with a data-driven improvement plan for a chemical or laboratory facility of their choice.
