Episodes of bank distress, from small institution failures to wider banking crises, show how quickly confidence can disappear when depositors doubt that their money is safe. Deposit insurers and their partners in the safety net must therefore be able to assess risk, hold enough resources and act quickly. These duties are increasingly data intensive, and capacity to analyse information is now a core institutional capability.
This advanced programme shows how analytics supports each safety net function. Participants begin with the data architecture needed for supervision and insurance, covering regulatory returns, depositor records and market indicators. They then build early warning indicators and models, design and calibrate risk-based assessment systems, estimate the adequacy of the fund under different loss scenarios, and apply stress tests to banks and to the insurer itself. The closing sessions turn to payout operations, where file validation and reconciliation determine how fast depositors can be reimbursed, and to communicating analytical results to boards, policymakers and the public.
Delegates work in spreadsheets and basic statistical tools on anonymised datasets, finishing with an analytical note on a hypothetical bank and fund.
