Data now sits behind almost every workplace decision, from budget reviews and recruitment to service delivery and donor reporting. Yet many capable professionals were never taught how to read a table critically, judge whether a statistic is trustworthy or explain a number to a sceptical colleague. The result is decisions that rest on habit or on whoever presents the most confident chart.
The Data Literacy for Professionals: Understand & Use Data Training Course builds that missing foundation without assuming any technical background. Participants begin with data types, sources and collection methods, then learn to clean and organise a spreadsheet, calculate averages, rates and percentage change, and build pivot tables. Later sessions deal with sampling, variation, correlation versus cause, ethical use of personal data and the design of honest charts. The final days bring the skills together in a short analysis and a presentation aimed at a manager or board.
Teaching is hands-on, with every participant working on laptops through workplace-style datasets. Short explanations are followed immediately by practice, and participants finish with a personal checklist for reviewing any report or dataset they receive.
