Smallholder farmers produce most of the food eaten in many African countries, yet they often lack timely information, affordable finance and reliable access to markets. Digital tools can shorten each of those distances, and mobile phone coverage now reaches most rural communities. What separates lasting services from short-lived pilots is how well they fit farmers' realities and the organisations that support them.
The Digital Transformation in Digital Agritech for Smallholders Training Course takes a practical view of that change. Participants begin with farmer needs, literacy, connectivity and trust, and use them to select channels and services. They then examine the building blocks of a digital agricultural ecosystem: farmer data, identity, payments, advisory content, supply chain tracking and analytics, together with the partnerships and policies that connect them.
Sessions use real agritech models and exercises in service design, platform requirement writing and business modelling. By the close, participants have mapped a farmer journey, drafted a service specification and outlined a sustainable transformation plan for their own organisation or programme, with realistic expectations of cost and timing.
