Development and humanitarian programmes operate in settings that shift faster than any logframe can anticipate. Conflict, climate shocks, price swings and policy changes can undermine a well-designed intervention within months. Executives who rely on annual reports alone discover problems when it is too late to act, while partners and communities who feel excluded from measurement stop engaging with it altogether.
This executive programme shows senior leaders how to combine adaptive management with locally led monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning. Participants examine how to frame learning questions that matter to decision makers, how to set up regular reflection points, and how to record and defend decisions to change course. The course then looks at what locally led practice demands from leadership: sharing control of indicators and data, funding local organisations fairly, and building accountability to affected people alongside accountability to donors.
Teaching is discussion-driven and pitched at the strategic level. Participants work with anonymised programme cases, test their own portfolios against adaptive management principles and leave with a draft governance routine, a donor engagement approach and a personal plan for strengthening learning culture in their organisation.
