Civil society organisations are under pressure to show that money spent on influencing policy is accountable, proportionate and linked to change. Donors scrutinise indirect costs, partners expect fair shares of funding, and regulators look closely at how campaign money is raised and spent. Teams that treat advocacy finance as an afterthought find themselves explaining unreconciled coalition accounts or costs that cannot be traced to any result.
The Financial Management for Advocacy, Policy Influence & Partnerships Training Course follows the life of an advocacy grant. It starts with costing campaigns and research, moves through budgeting, cost allocation and internal controls, and then addresses the financial architecture of partnerships: lead and member roles in a consortium, sub-granting, due diligence, pooled funds and financial reporting between partners. Later sessions turn to monitoring, audit readiness, donor compliance and the way financial data can support learning about what works in influencing.
Participants work with sample budgets, partner assessment forms and donor reporting templates instead of abstract theory. By the final day each person will have a costed plan for an advocacy initiative, a partner financial monitoring approach and a short list of control improvements to take back to their organisation.
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
