Buildings account for a large share of energy use and emissions, and organisations with net zero or cost reduction targets must now justify every retrofit in financial terms. Boards rarely approve a project on engineering merit alone. They want a clear view of capital cost, operating savings, risk, funding options and the effect on the balance sheet.
Financial Management for Building Energy Performance & Decarbonisation Training Course gives finance and technical staff a shared language. Participants start from energy baselines and audit results, then learn how to turn them into cash flows and compare efficiency measures such as lighting, HVAC controls, insulation, solar PV and metering. The middle sessions cover project appraisal methods, risk and sensitivity, and the structure of performance contracts and green financing. The closing sessions deal with verification of savings, budgeting and portfolio-level decarbonisation planning.
Throughout the week, finance staff and engineers work side by side so that technical assumptions and financial assumptions are tested together before any proposal reaches a committee. Participants work with spreadsheet models built around realistic building data, and each completes a business case and funding plan for a facility they know.
At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
