Africa bears a heavy share of climate impacts while attracting only a fraction of the finance needed to respond. Governments are tagging climate spending in their budgets, banks are screening portfolios for climate risk, and companies face investor and buyer demands to measure and disclose their emissions. Finance professionals who understand both the money and the carbon are in short supply.
The Financial Management for Climate Action, Adaptation & Carbon Accounting Training Course links financial discipline to climate outcomes. It opens with the architecture of climate finance, explaining grants, concessional loans, blended finance and the accreditation and proposal requirements of major funds. Participants then learn to cost adaptation measures and low-carbon investments, appraise them with discounted cash flow and cost-effectiveness methods, and build budgets and fiduciary controls that satisfy funders. The second half of the programme turns to carbon accounting, covering organisational boundaries, activity data, emission factors, verification and reporting, followed by carbon market economics and the financial reporting of credits.
Practical spreadsheets, sample budgets and a simple emissions inventory exercise anchor the learning, so participants return with models and templates rather than concepts alone.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
