Household surveys, baselines, endline evaluations and routine monitoring all depend on money being spent wisely in difficult field conditions. Costs are driven by design decisions that are often made without finance input: how many respondents, how long the questionnaire runs, how far teams must travel and what technology they use. When the budget is not built from these drivers, shortfalls lead to reduced samples and weak evidence.
Financial Management for Data Collection, Survey Design & Mobile Tools Training Course connects design and finance from the first step. Participants examine how sampling approaches, survey modes and instruments affect cost, then construct activity-based budgets covering planning, tool development, piloting, training, fieldwork, supervision, data processing and analysis. The programme explains the economics of mobile data collection, including devices, licences, connectivity, server hosting and the savings from reduced data entry. It then turns to financial control: advances, receipts, field cash handling, vendor contracts, variance tracking and donor reporting.
Training is workshop based. Participants build and stress-test budgets in spreadsheets, compare paper and mobile options, and prepare a fieldwork financial control plan that fits the requirements of their own organisation or funder.
