Development funders increasingly require programmes to show both financial accountability and credible results, often through digital data collection and online dashboards. In practice, finance teams and MEAL teams work in separate systems, MEAL budgets are underestimated, and results figures are reported without checks on their reliability. The consequences include audit queries, disallowed costs and loss of donor confidence.
Financial Management for Digital MEAL, Dashboards & Data Quality brings the two disciplines together in a five-day programme. Participants begin by planning and budgeting for MEAL systems, including the cost of digital tools, field operations and capacity building, and by applying grant rules on cost allocation and eligibility. They then examine cost-effectiveness and value for money measures, and learn how to design dashboards that combine budget execution with indicator progress. The final block deals with data quality assurance, from routine assessments and verification visits to internal controls, data protection and responsible data practice.
Learning is practical. Participants build a MEAL budget, construct a linked finance and results dashboard from sample data, and carry out a data quality assessment on a project dataset. They finish with a checklist and plan they can apply to their own programme.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
