Central banks hold the nation's reserves, steer liquidity and oversee the payments system, so errors in governance carry unusually high costs. Stakeholders including legislators, the International Monetary Fund, rating agencies and the public increasingly expect clear mandates, documented decision processes and strong controls over every monetary operation.
The Governance and Compliance in Central Banking & Monetary Operations Training Course applies a governance and compliance lens to the core activities of a modern central bank. Participants start with institutional design: mandate, independence, board structure, decision rights and disclosure. They then follow operations from instrument design through dealing, settlement and accounting, identifying where control points, limits and reporting lines belong. Later sessions address reserve management governance, foreign exchange operations, payment systems oversight, internal audit and the handling of regulatory breaches.
Learning is practical. Delegates review sample policies and transaction trails, test controls against checklists, rehearse reporting to a board risk committee and prepare a compliance monitoring plan tailored to their own department. The course also gives time to exchange experience on reforms undertaken in different central banks.
