Communication teams are now treated as a source of institutional risk. A single post, interview or press statement can trigger a regulator inquiry, a lawsuit, a donor suspension or a loss of public trust. Boards increasingly ask who approved a message, what it was based on and whether it complied with the organisation's own policies and the rules that govern it.
The Governance and Compliance in Crisis & Strategic Communication Training Course applies a governance discipline to a function that often runs on instinct. Participants first map the legal, regulatory and ethical obligations that touch communication in their sector. They then design the controls: communication policy, delegated authorities, escalation thresholds, fact-verification steps, spokesperson rules and a record of decisions. The programme turns to crisis conditions, showing how to keep those controls working when hours matter, using pre-approved templates, rapid legal review and clear ownership of each message.
Later sessions cover stakeholder and media engagement under confidentiality limits, social media governance, post-crisis reviews and reporting on communication risk to boards. Work is based on scenarios, simulated incident rooms and review of sample policies. Participants finish with a draft communication governance framework and crisis approval protocol.
