Digital tools have the potential to raise smallholder incomes through better information, access to inputs, finance and markets. But the same platforms gather sensitive data about people, plots, yields and transactions, often through agents and partners, and often from users with limited digital literacy and little power to negotiate terms. Regulators are paying closer attention to data protection, digital credit and mobile payments, and funders increasingly ask for evidence of responsible practice.
This programme gives agritech and agricultural finance teams a practical governance toolkit. Participants begin by mapping the data and money flows in typical services such as advisory apps, marketplaces, input credit, insurance and traceability platforms. They then examine the obligations that apply: data protection and consent, cybersecurity, electronic transactions, financial services licensing, consumer protection and anti-money laundering where relevant, and the contractual arrangements that govern agents, aggregators, telecom partners and cloud providers. Governance themes such as board oversight, policies, risk registers, ethics, algorithmic fairness and grievance mechanisms are woven through every session.
Hands-on workshops use sample consent forms, privacy notices and partner agreements. By the end, each participant has produced a compliance gap analysis and action plan for their own platform or portfolio.
